Acoustic Well Sounding

An Acoustic Well Sounder (AWS) is used to obtain the distance from the wellhead to the liquid level in the casing annulus or tubing string of an oil or gas well. Kaizen Well Solutions Optimization Technicians can perform AWS shots equipped with an acoustic well sounder a pressure pulse generator, an integrated microphone, a data acquisition unit and a diagnostic software.

Using an Echometer pressure pulse gas gun, technicians typically send a gas pressure pulse down the annulus of the well. The pressure pulse echoes from each collar and the fluid as it travels down the well. These echoes are detected by a microphone within the gas gun. Kaizen Engineering review the results of the AWS system to provide a Liquid Level Report and other important subsurface information including fluid level, bottom hole pressure, pressure transient tests, fluid level tracking, plunger tracking, liquid loading and a Dual Microphone process to determine holes in tubing.
